We
took Troy in for his 15-month checkup today. All in all, he’s doing well. But
while we were there, my wife asked about Troy’s calorie intake. She’d been
reading online that toddlers need 1100 calories a day, and on his best day,
Troy only gets around 800. The doctor told us that Troy is heavy for his height.
Which makes no sense to me. Heavy for his age maybe, but height? He’s a
toothpick. He’s long and lean, but he looks perfectly proportionate for his
height. The doctor was trying to say that Troy was getting plenty to eat, and
that we shouldn’t increase his calories. But it was still an unusual way to
express that.
So, a little annoyed by this assessment, I took Troy out to the car and fed him some cheese and turkey. That'll teach them to call my son "heavy"!
