Today, I took another meandering walk with Troy, just the boys. He insists on taking the stroller with us, even though he has no intention of riding in it. He likes to drunkenly drive it down the sidewalk, rolling from one patch of grass to the other. At some point, I usually end up pushing it while he tries to run away along the sidewalk.
When we got near the bridge over the creek, Troy wanted to stop and dig in the dirt. So, we sat down on the sidewalk, picked up sticks from the grass, and we started digging in the dirt. People were walking around us, looking disapprovingly, and maybe just a bit curiously and jealously, at us playing without a care in the world. Nobody expects a grown man to be playing in the dirt, especially right in the middle of the sidewalk, but you can get away with it if you’re with a two-year old.
