Troy: “What was that song they were taking about, dada?”
Me:
“It was a commercial for a Christmas concert.”
Troy:
“I wish it was Christmas.”
Me:
“Me too.”
Troy:
“And I wish it was Halloween too.”
Me:
“At this point, I’d settle for Halloween. Anything for a reprieve from the
heat.”
Troy:
“What about a Halloween Christmas together? Do you like that?”
Me:
“Um…I like the Christmas part.”
Troy:
“You don’t like Halloween?”
Me:
“No, not really. I never have.”
Troy:
“Why not?”
Me:
“It’s not really my thing. I don’t like ghosts, and witches, and monsters. And
I don’t like being scared.”
Troy:
“It’s okay, they’re not real. They’re just decorations. You don’t need to be
scared. They won’t hurt you.”
Me:
“Yeah, I don’t really like the decorations either.”
Troy:
“What about dressing up in costumes?”
Me:
“Nope, I don’t really enjoy that either.”
Troy:
“I think we just need to get you a happy costume. Yeah, that’s what we’ll do.
We’ll get you a happy costume.”
Me:
“Okay.”
Troy:
“Dada?”
Me:
“Troy.”
Troy:
“Does mama like Halloween?”
Me:
“I think mama enjoys seeing the kids dressing up, and I think she enjoys how
happy you get.”
Troy:
“And chocolate.”
Me:
“Of course, and chocolate.”
