You're a Wizard...uh...Troy!

Troy decided that he wanted to go as Harry Potter for Halloween this year. I'm not exactly sure where this idea came from, but he was dead set on it, and it was definitely better than his usual choices of rotting zombies or bloody rabbits. So, I tracked down a blood-red Gryffindor robe and Harry Potter specs for him. Then, I decided to carve him a custom wand made from the maple tree in the front yard (he was less than enthused about this, because it didn't look identical to Harry's). My wife did the lightning bolt scar on his head in eyeliner, and with his naturally curly hair, he made a pretty convincing wizard.

Out of solidarity, I decided to also dress up, so I got a royal-blue Ravenclaw robe and paired it with the crushed velvet vest from my wedding. That paired with my long, shaggy beard was a pretty striking combination. I carved another custom wand for me. After seeing us both, my wife was feeling left out, so she decided to dress up as Professor McGonagall. She had her witch's hat, black dress, and green cloak. And of course, she also requested a custom wand. By this time, the poor maple tree was looking a little bare around the bottom!

Since we were going all out, I decided to invite my sister and her husband to join us. They are both big Harry Potter fans. In fact, that was how they got dressed up for their wedding. My sister showed up in golden Hufflepuff robes and her husband was in emerald-green Slytherin robes. So, we had the complete set when all was said and done. Of course, they didn't have custom wands...but theirs did light up on the tip.

It was a lot of fun walking around the neighborhood, and we got a lot of comments and compliments on our costumes. But the most important part is that Troy had a blast, and he appreciated that we all dressed up too.
