The Houstonian Fall: The Waterwall

Tonight, we went to the Waterwall, because it’s one of my favorite places in the city. It’s a 64-foot semicircular structure that has water cascading down on both sides. The waterfall creates a wet wind as it plummets that you can feel twenty feet away. It’s truly an amazing sight. Neither Troy nor my wife had ever been to it before, so they were both impressed. The only downside was that they didn’t turn on the lights in the water, so we could see it all lit up.

We left there and drove around the corner to have dinner at Grotto. It’s an Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere. Our waiter was a Mexican man named Wilfredo, but he told us to call him “Willie.” My wife was very taken with him, so she kept engaging him in conversation. He was a very nice man, which made the meal more special.

We all tried something new. Troy got calamari and spaghetti, my wife got a fettuccini and mushroom and chicken dish, and I got a butter and sage ravioli. Troy ended up trading his spaghetti for my raviolis, and we all shared the calamari. The food was good, and we enjoyed the evening. Willie even gave us free cookies and biscotti!
